Well if you live in Florida, have a second home here or just have friends you’ve inevitably heard of our growing insurance challenges and with the most recent wave of frustration coming in the form of a postcard. As a homeowner, manufacturer and resident…we’ve taken the calls and can offer these suggestions:
-
Knowledge – Once the heart slows down, take a deep breath and brief yourself on the specifics. This only applies if your home is insured for more than $750k and is in the windborne debris region. Exhale: there’s many ways to mitigate the requirements.
- Budget – “Home Fortification” can be as cheap as a sheet of plywood and as expensive as the complete replacement of all windows and doors. Tip: Make sure you understand “ALL” the pros and cons.
- Solution – There are no two homes the same and every homeowner has there own level of comfort. Terms that should resonate in your decision matrix should include: location, orientation, value, ease of use, permanent, temporary, exposure, height, physical distance, etc.
We’ll be working through this along side our customers and sharing solutions and successes. In your due diligence, review closely the required forms and make sure you’re working with a licensed Florida professional.
Step one: Call your insurance agent. There are alternate providers without this requirement and you may be surprised…they may even be less expensive. Give us a call if we can help. We’re quickly becoming “resource experts”.
